HOOD RIVER MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE AND MUSIC BUILDING

Project Description

The Science and Music Building at Hood River Middle School is the first certified Net Zero public school building in the country. It is a 7,000 sf separate building required to match the design of the existing school which is on the National Historic Register. The project was in the Energy Trust of Oregon Net Zero incentive program and received a LEED Platinum certification. Daylight harvesting, photovoltaic array, passive solar systems, and water collection for non-potable greenhouse use were key energy efficiency components. The building envelope is constructed of ICF walls triple pane windows. Lumber salvaged from a bus barn building on site was used in the construction of all of the timber roof trusses.
